Protect your business with flooring contractor insurance from Trade Direct. Whether you install hardwood flooring, laminate, vinyl, safety flooring or commercial flooring systems, the right cover can help support your business finances if an insured event leads to a claim.

Flooring contractor insurance explained

Flooring projects often take place in occupied homes, commercial premises, retail units and construction environments. You may work around customers, employees, other contractors and members of the public while handling specialist materials, adhesives and equipment.

Our flooring contractor insurance brings together a range of cover options that can help protect your business against unforeseen costs if an insured event results in a claim.

Public liability insurance

Public liability insurance is one of the most common types of flooring insurance chosen by contractors and installers. It can provide protection if a third party claims they have suffered injury or property damage because of your work.

You can choose public liability insurance up to £5 million across all our flooring contractor insurance packages.

Employers’ liability insurance

If you employ staff, employers' liability insurance may be required by law in certain circumstances.

It can provide protection if an employee suffers an injury or illness connected to their work and brings a claim against your business.

You can add employers' liability insurance across all our flooring contractor insurance packages, with cover available up to £10 million.

Professional indemnity insurance

If you provide recommendations, specifications or advice about flooring products, materials or installation methods, professional indemnity insurance can provide protection if a customer alleges those services caused them financial loss.

We include professional indemnity cover within our Classic and Plus policies.

Cover is available up to £100,000.

Tools cover

Many flooring installers rely on specialist tools and equipment every day, from cutters and sanders to measuring equipment and power tools.

Our tools cover can apply to handheld powered and non-powered portable tools, as well as laptops and tablets used for business purposes, subject to policy terms and conditions.

Tools cover starts at £1,000 and can be increased up to £15,000.

Temporary total disablement benefit

Available within our Plus policies, Temporary Total Disablement Benefit can provide up to £600 per week if an insured person is unable to work due to a covered injury, subject to policy terms and conditions.

Why flooring contractors need insurance

As a flooring contractor, you may work across domestic properties, commercial premises, retail units and construction sites. Every project brings different challenges and different risks:

  • You might transport expensive tools between jobs.

  • Customers and visitors may walk through active work areas.

  • In some cases, clients may allege your work caused them financial loss.

Our flooring contractors’ liability insurance can help protect your business against unforeseen costs if an insured event results in a claim. Depending on the cover you select, you can also protect employees, tools, professional services and your income following certain injuries.

Whether you're fitting luxury vinyl tiles, laying timber flooring or completing large commercial installations, having the right cover in place can help keep your business moving.

Common risks faced by flooring contractors

Flooring projects often involve specialist tools, adhesives, materials and unfinished work areas. Whether you're fitting vinyl flooring, hardwood floors, safety flooring or commercial flooring systems, unexpected incidents can happen.

Here are some situations where flooring contractor insurance may provide protection:

1. A customer trips in an active work area

Flooring installations can create temporary hazards while work is underway.

If a customer, visitor or member of the public trips over tools, materials or equipment and suffers an injury, public liability insurance may provide protection against claims involving third-party injury.

2. Damage to third-party property

Flooring work often takes place in occupied homes, offices and commercial premises.

If equipment, materials or adhesives accidentally damage surrounding third-party property, public liability insurance may provide protection against claims for property damage.

3. Theft of specialist flooring tools

Many flooring installers transport valuable tools and equipment between projects.

Tools cover can help support replacement costs if insured tools or equipment are stolen from a locked vehicle, subject to policy terms and conditions.

4. An employee suffers an injury

If you employ staff, employers' liability insurance may provide protection if an employee suffers an injury and brings a claim against the business.

Up to £10 million of employers' liability cover is available to add across our flooring contractor insurance packages.

5. A customer alleges financial loss

A customer may claim your services caused them financial loss.

Up to £100,000 of Third Party Financial Loss cover is included as standard across our flooring contractor insurance packages.
