Poorly fitted plastic pipework costing homeowners and businesses millions in water damage

03 May 2023

Water damage claims increased to £368 million in Q4 2022, the highest for any quarter recorded by the Association of British Insurers. Water damage is often so severe that those affected, homeowners and businesses, have to move to temporary alternative accommodation. The drying-out process and repairs can be highly distressing and disruptive because it often forces the owners out of their properties for months.

Leading insurer, Zurich Insurance, is seeing a rise in certain types of plastic pipework and fittings reacting to other materials used in the construction process and causing water leaks. Zurich is highlighting the cause of this problem to contractors so that they know the potential issues that could arise many months or even years after this pipework has been installed and take preventative steps.
