- Optional jury service cover for tradesman policies
Getting selected for jury service is an important event, but it can be inconvenient to you and your business. If you're self-employed or work as a contractor, time away from a job can also mean time away from your usual earnings.
Jury service insurance is an optional extension that can provide a daily payment if an insured person has to attend court for jury service.
Jury service insurance can help offset some of the income you may miss while you're away from work attending court as a juror.
With our jury service cover, you can receive:
-
£250 per day for the first 10 days of jury service
-
£100 per day thereafter
The payment applies when you have to attend a court of law for jury service, subject to the policy terms and conditions.

If you're a contractor or sole trader, taking time away from work can mean losing income while you're carrying out jury service.
The court service may provide payments or reimburse certain expenses, but these may not cover what you'd normally earn. Jury service cover can provide a set daily payment to help make up some of the difference while you're away from work.
It can be particularly relevant if you're called for jury service as a contract worker, and can't carry out your usual work while attending court.

Attend jury service
If you're covered and have to attend a court of law for jury service during the period of cover, the daily benefit can apply.
Receive the daily benefit
The policy provides £250 per day for the first 10 days of service and £100 per day thereafter, subject to the policy terms and conditions.
Who can have jury service insurance cover?
Jury service cover is available for any insured person who has to attend a court of law to carry out jury service.
It can apply to you or an eligible employee covered by the policy, but it doesn't apply to temporary employees.
There are also some other important conditions around when the cover can be taken out:
-
You must be covered by the policy when you attend jury service
-
The benefit isn't payable if you were notified before the policy started that you would need to carry out jury service
When can't you take out jury service cover?
There is one important point to know before adding Jury Service cover.
If you've already been told that you need to attend jury service before your policy starts, the cover won't apply to that period of jury service.
In other words, you can't wait until you've received your jury service notification and then add the cover for that particular period.
The extension also doesn't apply to temporary employees.
