£116,000 and counting: what our customers are saving with the WEX Esso Card™
If you spend your working week on the road, you don't need us to tell you how much fuel can cost.
And when filling up is a regular part of the working week, even a saving of a few pence per litre can add up.
Through our partnership with WEX Europe Services, Trade Direct Insurance customers can access the WEX Esso Card™, with an average saving of 7p per litre on Esso Synergy fuels.
But what does that saving look like when you add it up across the customers actually using the card?
According to the latest figures provided by WEX, Trade Direct Insurance customers have now saved more than £116,000 on fuel using the WEX Esso Card™ since our partnership launched in September 2020. Between February and June 2026, customers using the card saved an average of £143 a month on their fuel costs.
More than £27,000 was saved during last year alone.
Small savings can add up
Seven pence per litre might not look like a huge number next to the price of fuel. But a working van doesn't get filled once.
A saving on one tank becomes another on the next. Over weeks and months, the difference can become much more noticeable.
Your own saving will depend on how much fuel you use, of course.
Useful when the job takes you somewhere new
A fuel card also needs to be practical when you're out working.
The card gives you access to more than 5,800 UK petrol stations, including Esso, BP, Shell, Texaco, Tesco and Morrisons, offering you plenty of options if work takes you away from your usual patch.
And there's another benefit once you're back home.
Fewer receipts to keep track of
Fuel isn't only a cost at the pump. There's the admin that comes with it too.
With the WEX Esso Card™, HMRC-compliant digital invoices are stored in your online portal. Payments are made by automated weekly Direct Debit.
That means fewer individual fuel receipts to hang onto and a clearer record of what the business is spending.
You can also collect Nectar points when you fill up at participating Esso stations.
Already got a card? You're part of the £116,000
The £116,000 isn't a projected saving. According to WEX's figures, it's what Trade Direct Insurance customers have collectively saved on fuel since the partnership began.
If you're already using the WEX Esso Card™, you're part of that total.
If you're not, why not take a look and see whether it could make sense for the miles you're already doing?
The WEX Esso Card™ is free for Trade Direct Insurance customers, with zero annual card fees. You only pay for the fuel you use.
